Hello Kansas City, welcome back to the Red Kingdom Cleaning Podcast, your go-to for all Lee’s Summit home cleaning services.
We are so glad that you’re listening tonight on this wonderful May afternoon. We’re going to be going through some of the number one questions that we get asked about our Lee’s Summit home cleaning service.
How often should you clean your house?
This depends on who you are as a person. Some people need a mix of daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning.
If you have dogs, kids, if you’re more out in the country, or if you keep your doors open more often, there’s dust that comes in. All of that can impact how often you would desire to have your home cleaned.
We do offer weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly cleans with the occasional, “Hey, I would like to also add on certain rooms,” maybe that you’re like, “I don’t need this done all the time.”
But for you as a person, I would say a great practice is on the daily. Go through and pick up things that are meant to be where they are throughout the day.
I know things get placed places that aren’t where they’re meant to be. Just daily picking up is a good practice.
But a good cleaning, I would say bi-weekly is good.
Some people like to have their toilets cleaned once a week. Some people say, “Hey, I’m just going to brush them down every so often,” and then monthly like to have them thoroughly cleaned.
So that depends on you.
Daily things include wiping counters, doing dishes, picking up clutter, and keeping laundry from piling up.
Weekly would be bathrooms, floors, dusting, and the kitchen.
Monthly or seasonal cleaning includes things like baseboards, blinds, vents, ceiling fans, inside the appliances, and areas that can get easily forgotten.
But again, it depends on your lifestyle.
A retired couple with no pets may not need the same schedule as a family with three kids, two dogs, and a full calendar.
If your home starts to feel overwhelming between your cleanings, that is usually a sign you need a more consistent routine or professional help.
That’s where we would step in with our Lee’s Summit home cleaning services.
What is the difference between a deep clean and a maintenance clean?
A deep clean is just like that name, and a maintenance clean is just like its name.
A deep clean is hitting the reset button on your home. It focuses on the buildup and details that accumulate over time.
This could include things like your baseboards, doors, trim, cabinet fronts, bathroom buildup, shower glass, dust on fixtures, vents, and corners you don’t usually get cleaned on a regular basis.
A maintenance clean is what happens when your home is brought to a good point. Usually, we do a deep clean to begin, and then we maintain it.
We come either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, and you get different discounts for how often we come because there usually isn’t as much buildup, even though we’re touching the same amount of surfaces.
It’s usually not as dirty. The hard water hasn’t come on the glass as often. There’s not as much dust, things like that.
That’s keeping things fresh, sanitary, and manageable.
We’re not touching every single surface like you would with a deep clean, but we’re touching your main surfaces, the things that you really do on a more regular basis.
Maintenance cleans usually include bathrooms, kitchen, dusting, floors, and the main surfaces that need more regular attention.
Again, we would most likely start you with a deep clean, unless it’s a brand-new build or you’ve already just had it recently cleaned.
There are a few instances where maybe we wouldn’t, but typically we want to start you on a deep clean.
Then we get you on a bi-weekly or monthly service so it can continue to be maintained and you always feel like your home is peaceful and relaxing.
Why does the first clean usually take longer?
The first clean can take longer because the cleaning team is getting familiar with your home.
Usually, they can take 10 to 15 minutes just walking through your house, coming up with a game plan, and getting familiar with your home.
Then, that’s when we tackle buildup.
If it’s been a while since your home has been cleaned, this first clean can take a bit longer because we are going through and removing weeks, months, or years of buildup in places that some people don’t usually go through and clean.
That’s what our professional cleaners do.
Once we get that taken care of, when we come on a regular basis, it’s not there anymore. That’s why it takes a little bit less time.
Even homes that are generally tidy can have dust, grime, soap scum, fingerprints, pet hair, and buildup in areas that are not part of everyday cleaning.
During your first clean, cleaners are often learning the layout of your house, figuring out which areas need the most attention, and working through details that will not be as time-consuming once the house is maintained.
Bathrooms can take longer because of shower buildup or hard water.
Kitchens may take longer because of grease, cabinet fronts, appliances, and crumbs in the corners.
Floors may take longer if there’s pet hair or buildup along the edges.
Again, once the first cleaning is done, your maintenance cleanings are a lot smoother because the home has already been reset. The cleaner knows your house better. The checklist is more established. There’s less buildup to fight through each time, and they get a groove with your home.
Do I need to clean before the cleaners come?
No, you do not need to clean before we come. That is why we get to come.
We get to take that off your plate.
However, we do ask that you pick up any clutter.
If there is clutter in your home and our cleaners aren’t able to access certain areas, they won’t be able to clean it.
If on the list they have to vacuum the floors, but there are clothes all over it and they literally cannot access your floors, they will not be able to vacuum them.
We are not there to organize or declutter your home. That would be another service that we currently don’t offer.
We will pick up something and put it right back down.
We won’t do your dishes. There are certain things that, if we arrive and they’re not done, we may skip, communicate that with you, or work around it.
No, you do not have to clean. You don’t have to wipe anything down, scrub anything, dust anything, vacuum anything, mop anything, or sanitize anything.
But tidying, like putting toys away, clothes away, papers away, dishes away, items on your counters, and things on the floor, can allow them to actually clean your home and make sure it’s maintained to the level that you like it.
The more decluttered it is, the more that we can do our very best to make sure your home is at a good reset.
What should I do before a cleaning appointment?
Before a cleaning appointment, the most helpful thing you can do is prepare the home so the cleaners can focus on cleaning instead of organizing.
That may be picking up clothes on the floor, putting away dishes in the sink or dishwasher, clearing important papers from the counter, and putting away any personal items you do not want moved.
It’s also helpful to communicate any special instructions.
If there’s a room you do not want cleaned, if there’s a pet that needs to stay in a certain area, if something is broken or delicate, or if you’re like, “Hey, I want this specific product used,” typically we get a lot of that during our walkthrough with you.
But if anything comes up, if you’re like, “Hey, I have a guest staying in the house,” or anything you would like us to know, like, “Hey, I’ve got an event coming up. Can you add this space on?” let us know.
That can help us better serve your home and prepare our cleaners.
Another great thing to do is think through your priorities.
If you care more about bathrooms and floors, let us know.
If the kitchen is your biggest stress point, let us know.
If you’re hosting people and want the guest bathroom, entryway, or living room prioritized, that helps us make the best use of time.
You do not need to do a lot before cleaning, but a little preparation can make the cleaning more efficient, more detailed, and more customized to make sure we get the things that matter most to you.
How long does a house cleaning usually take?
This can depend on a lot of things.
The size of your home, the number of bathrooms, the condition of the home, how much clutter there is, whether there are pets, if it’s a first-time cleaning, a deep clean, or a maintenance clean.
A smaller maintenance cleaning may take an hour and a half. That is our shortest amount of time that we do, about an hour and a half.
But we do have homes that can take four people five hours, and that’s on a regular basis because the home is really large.
It depends if you have a larger home, if you have more bathrooms, if your kitchen is larger, and things like that. Those can take a lot longer on our team.
If you’re doing a first-time clean or deep clean, that will take longer than normal because there’s more buildup and more details.
When you do things like baseboards, doors, cabinet fronts, and shower glass, things like that can take a lot longer.
We’ll communicate that with you the first time so you’re prepared for that.
Typically, for a normal-size home, anywhere between two to two and a half hours would be pretty standard for our team to get your house done.
